EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT
Current research indicates that emotional intelligence (EI) can be a better indicator of success than IQ (intellect) alone. This course will provide an understanding of what EI is, how it applies to individuals. how to develop strategies for improvement of EI, and how to take what they have learned and apply it in their personal and professional lives.Course Objectives:Demonstrate an understanding of the dimensions of emotional intelligence by developing the capacity to be aware of emotions, control and appropriately express emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically to increase leadership success and awareness.Apply concepts of emotional intelligence to conflict resolution to increase chances for continued leadership successes at the command level in law enforcement.Develop alternative approaches to leadership challenges within the law enforcement context using emotional intelligence to shape and transform law enforcement organizational culture.Synthesize core concepts related to emotional intelligence and provide leadership to employees and partners that will assist in the development of their own emotional intelligence skills (mentoring/coaching).
